The Breaking Point

As bp Pulse's EV charging network scaled into the tens of thousands of charge points, existing operational tools were no longer sufficient. Teams lacked a centralized, real-time view of network health, leading to:

Ingesting data from numerous, often inconsistent sources meant frequent shifts in data availability, directly impacting feature feasibility and design requirements.

Digitizing highly manual and intricate operational processes for tens of thousands of chargers demanded deep understanding and careful mapping.

Generative AI Limitations

Initial ambitions for large-scale Generative AI insights were curbed by the overwhelming volume and precision needs of real-time charger data, necessitating a strategic pivot to specialized Machine Learning.

Leadership envisioned Generative AI transforming vast charger data into smart insights. But at this scale, off-the-shelf models broke down—especially where precision and complexity mattered most.

Our solution wasn’t to abandon the AI vision, but to evolve it. We built Watts, a domain-specific assistant engineered with targeted logic and performance-aware algorithms. Designed for scale and accuracy, Watts helped teams move from reactive to proactive network management—without compromising precision.
